Our Story

raiz: root, origin. Where you come from.

My parents came from Portugal and built a life in America. Working, cooking, praying, arguing, and loving in Portuguese while learning everything else in English.

Growing up, I was caught between two identities. Too Portuguese at school, not Portuguese enough to the Portuguese. But Portugal never felt far. It shaped me. It built me. It lives in the memories I carry. The family no longer here, the summers that felt like another world, a culture I've always felt responsible for keeping alive.

That culture deserves more than a soccer jersey.

RAIZ is what I wanted. Clothing that carries your heritage without broadcasting it. Most people who pass you on the street will not notice. The ones who do will already know.

Some of the references are common to the culture. Others are smaller and more particular. A panel of azulejos remembered from a hallway. The carnations on a folk dancer's dress. A phrase that closes every phone call with an avó. Até amanhã se Deus quiser.

Every piece is printed or embroidered to order on premium blanks. Designs are developed slowly, one at a time, until the color, the line, and the feeling are right.

If you see a RAIZ piece and immediately know what it means, you're exactly who this is for.

Sabe de onde vens.
